An Introduction to Pilates

At first glance, Pilates can look intimidating. The equipment looks like something out of a S&M dungeon and we talk about strange things like pelvic floor and transversus abdominus. But once you take a class, you come to realize that Pilates may actually be one of the best movement modalities out there.

Yes, I know I am biased, but hear me out.

Pilates is a very accessible and adaptable form of movement. The exercises are easily modified and built to cater the work to your specific needs and goals. I work with clients who are recovering from illness and injury and clients who are pregnant and post-partum. I work with people who want to keep up with their kids and those who want a new personal best in their CrossFit class. Pilates has something to offer each and every one of them.

The benefits of Pilates are vast so I will only name a few:

  • improved posture
  • a wholistic approach to injury recovery (this means less overall pain)
  • better biomechanics to support the activities you love to do
  • it’s fun and creative!

I want to circle back to the point about Pilates supporting the other activites you love to do. In Pilates, we look at your biomechanics (how the body is moving). As we take you through exercises, we see where you may be over compensating in some movement and muscle acitvation and where you are under compensating. We talk about the activites you love and focus on how we can approach movement and mechanics to suit your needs and goals. Then my goal, as an instructor, is to Rebalance you (see what I did there); to have the muscles and bones work with greater ease and more efficiency. You can then take those tools into the activites you love, finding new ways to better support yourself through the movements.

Still not sure about Pilates? Don’t take my word for it. Here is what Jenna D. has to say about my virtual sessions:

I’ve always wanted to try Pilates but was too nervous to try because it looked so hard. I found Robyn’s website and thought I would give it a try. I loved it! Robyn’s beginner videos were just what I needed to feel comfortable starting. She is an amazing teacher and explained every move so that it was easy to follow along. She takes great care to explain the science behind why we’re doing each move and how to make it work for your own body. I found it very easy to navigate through her website. There’s something for everyone! Will definitely keep taking her classes. I feel stronger already.

I am offering you a free Introduction to Pilates class on my streaming site, Rebalance Pilates at Home. Click the link next to the post and experience the same love for Pilates I have.

Cheers,

Robyn
