Five years ago, in the thick of Toronto’s lockdown, I signed the lease on this little studio. The city was quiet. The streets were uncertain. And I was nine months pregnant.
Looking back, most people might say the timing was not ideal. But there was something about that moment — the stillness, the leap of faith, the belief that bodies deserve a place to move and heal — that felt exactly right. I took over the space, set it up with love, and then handed it over to the universe for three months while I became a mother for a second time. When I came back part-time to teach, I walked into a place that already felt full of possibility.
That possibility has become something I couldn’t have fully imagined standing there in 2021.
What Five Years Has Built
Rebalance Pilates is now home to six incredible instructors — each one bringing their own expertise, warmth, and dedication to this space. Watching this team grow has been one of the true joys of running this studio. We didn’t just add bodies to a schedule; we built a community of teachers who genuinely care about the people in front of them.
We also launched a mentorship program, because good movement education shouldn’t stop at certification. We believe in supporting instructors as they grow their craft — creating a culture where learning is ongoing and excellence is shared.
And we’ve been stepping outside these four walls, too. Our collaboration with the Toronto Lymphatic Academy has opened up new dimensions in how we understand the body and support our clients’ wellbeing. Our growing connections with physio and wellness clinics across the city mean our clients have a fuller network of care around them — because Pilates works best when it’s part of something bigger.
A Word of Gratitude
To every client who has found their way through our door — thank you.
You found a small studio, often by word of mouth, sometimes by chance, often through Google, and you chose to show up. Week after week, session after session, you trusted us with your bodies, your recoveries, your goals, and sometimes your hardest days. You have no idea how much that means.
The impacts made in a room this size are anything but small. We see it in the client who returns to the mat after surgery. In the person who finally feels at home in their body. In the quiet confidence that builds over months of showing up. In the friendships formed in the lobby before class.
This studio exists because of you — your loyalty, your referrals, your energy, and your willingness to try something, commit to it, and grow.
Here’s to five years in this space, and to everything still ahead.
With so much gratitude,
Robyn
